Bhagat’s reading Revolution restarts
RAGINI BHUYAN  16th Oct

Shazahn Padamsee and Bhagat

ne of the most anticipated books of this year, Chetan Bhagat's Revolution 2020, was launched recently with more than 300 guests elbowing for space at the sprawling IIC annexe lawn. Bhagat's books have sold more than a million copies each and no other Indian author writing in English can boast of this. In fact, on the first day, 5 lakh copies of Revolution 2020 were sold.

Actress Shazahn Padamsee and Bhagat read an extract where the protagonist and his lover were enjoying a day out on the ghats of Varanasi. While his earlier stories were based on quintessential cities and urban areas, Revolution 2020 looks at a smaller town, Varanasi.

Bhagat said, "I don't understand all the fuss about my books. But it's a good fuss for me." The launch saw a good turnout of children, part of which can be explained by the presence of cricketer Yuvraj Singh. Singh, who didn't hang around for long, was literally mobbed by fans. However, Bhagat wasn't left out in the cold either. People queued up to get their copies signed and a few of them were getting multiple copies signed for their relatives and friends.

Speaking to Guardian20, Bhagat's wife Anusha, the COO, UBS, Mumbai, said, "Chetan loves the India International Centre and he has written so much here." One of the guests, Sonika Narang, said, "I have read all his books. Five Point Someone was brilliant, but he lost the plot in his second novel (One Night @ the Call Center). 3 Mistakes of my Life was all right, but I loved 2 States. That was his homecoming and I think his best novel to date."
