OUR CORRESPONDENT  New Delhi | 15th Feb 2014

Tech biggie IBM is planning massive layoffs, as part of its "rebalancing" act. India will be the first casualty of the layoffs. According to estimates, IBM employs 4.34 lakh workers.

They are planning to cut 13,000 jobs, under its so called "resource action" (RA) after disappointing earnings in the quarter. According to media reports, IBM has already asked about 40 people at one of its Bangalore units to leave. Terming the layoff as "slaughter" and "massive", the Bangalore employees said they were asked to leave suddenly and unceremoniously, their laptops were confiscated and they were asked to vacate the premises immediately, claimed the Wral Tech Wire (WTW) website.

According to WTW, IBM has already begun layoffs in Brazil, after job cuts in countries like France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium and Norway.
