Telangana unveils new industrial policy

A time bound approval in a maximum period of 30 days, a chasing cell in the Chief Minister's office, 148 well-developed industrial parks, a land bank of 1.50 lakh acres and round the clock supply of power are some of the highlights of the new industrial policy announced by the Telangana government at a conference of leaders of business and diplomats in Hyderabad on Friday.

Christened as "the Telangana industrial approval and self-certification system (TiPASS)", this new policy is aimed at attracting around Rs 5 lakh crore worth investments into Hyderabad and surrounding districts of Telangana. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who unveiled the policy in the presence of galaxy of industry leaders, bankers and foreign delegates, promised "corruption-free" clearances. IT minister K.T. Rama Rao who played a major role in framing the policy, Industries Minister, Jupalli Krishan Rao, Power Minister G. Jagadeswar Reddy and several other senior officials were present at the occasion.

KCR launched a solar energy policy aiming to generate about 2,500 MW to make sure the investors do not face power shortages. He opened a website on TiPASS where investors and entrepreneurs can register and apply for clearances for their projects. "I personally assure you that a maximum time of one month will be taken to clear your projects," the CM told the gathering.

Industry leaders, including G. Mallikarjuna Rao of the GMR group, G.V.K. Reddy of GVK group, who spoke on the occasion, praised the policy saying that self-certification would help investors from the cumbersome process of obtaining permissions from different departments. Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma said that Telangana has greatly eased the process of doing business for all current and future investors. ITC group representatives have announced Rs 8,000 cr worth investments in hotel and paper industries in Telangana.
