1. John Christopher Reilly Jr was born on 24 May, 1965, in Chicago to an Irish American father and a Lithuanian American mother. He attended the Brother Rice High School and graduated from DePaul University, Chicago.

2. Reilly made his film debut in the Brian De Palma's Casualties of War (1989). Although his role was written as a small one, De Palma liked his performance so much that the role was significantly expanded. In the '90s, he worked in notable films like Days of Thunder (1990) and Boogie Nights (1997).

3. His profile as a film actor was significantly raised in 2002 when he appeared in three of the year's Academy Award for Best Picture nominees – Chicago, Gangs of New York and The Hours. Reilly won an Oscar nomination for the Best Supporting Actor in Chicago.

4. Reilly appeared in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator (2004), as Howard Hughes' business partner. He reportedly quit the 2005 film Manderlay to protest the on-set killing of a donkey. He then appeared in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), as the title character's best friend. In the same year he starred in Robert Altman's A Prairie Home Companion.

5. In 2007, Reilly starred as the title character in parody bio-pic Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, singing various songs parodying Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and others. The next year, he reunited with Will Ferrell to star in Step Brothers and joined other notable actors to perform in the online political musical, Proposition 8 - The Musical.

6. Reilly then bagged roles in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009) and Cyrus (2010). In March 2012, he was featured in a performance of Dustin Lance Black's play, 8 — based on the federal trial that overturned California's Prop 8 ban on same-sex marriage.

7. Reilly has also performed on two tracks of the 2006 compilation Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys. In addition to his acting in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, he also performed as a vocalist and songwriter on the movie's soundtrack, for which he was nominated for a Grammy.
