ored of using your iPad to check the financial indices? Tired of your spouse berating you for fiddling about with your smartphone at mealtimes? If you are, rejoice at the launch of the Kama Xcitra app, which replaces boredom with pleasure while adding spice to your personal relationships. The app, a 3-D version of the Kama Sutra, uses the latest technology to enable you to view each of the ancient manual's legendary sexual positions from every angle and in full blown colour. What's more, it is a free download.

Realising possibly that sex is best when it is a three-dimensional activity, the creators of the Kama Xcitra say it will help people master the occasionally daunting positions set out in the 2,000-year-old Sanskrit treatise, so that they are brought "closer to the action than ever before". As Hazel Cushion, managing director of the publisher, Xcite Books, thoughtfully explained, for centuries, "couples have turned to the Kama Sutra for advice and guidance on how to have a fulfilling love life. But some of the more challenging positions like the Prone Tiger, the Catherine Wheel or the Peg have left readers a little baffled". Happily, no longer. In the Kama Xcitra app, "Each image appears to pop out of the page as a 3D hologram right in front of the reader's phone. The viewer then moves their mobile device around to appreciate the position from all angles. As a result, each position becomes clearer, finally solving the problem of where to put that awkward elbow." Or, presumably, where not to.

Yet another bonus is that the app enables users to customise the look of the male and female models by changing the colour of their hair and skin. You may also enhance your viewing delight by adding just the right mood music from your own collection. The indefatigable Ms Cushion adds: "We have been enhancing the sex lives of readers for ten years through books that celebrate sexuality in all its forms. Kama Xcitra takes that to a whole new level." Commuters on the Underground, trains and buses should be aware, however, that browsing through the Kama Xcitra may put them into an awkward position.
