Chasing Down Polio

In a world beset by AIDS, malaria and other health crises, the polio eradication campaign steals a march over this infectious malady. The campaign is the largest non-military, global enterprise in history. The size of the campaign in India is nothing less than amazing; 2.3 million vaccinators and 155,000 supervisors visit 209 million homes and vaccinate 172 million kids, under 5 years, twice a year during the national immunization day. These images document a polio campaign in Kusheshwar Asthan, Bihar, considered a high- risk area for polio eruption. The hurdles faced by the volunteers of this incredible campaign are best captured here.
