Rajpura is a small village in the north Rajasthan. Sky is the limit when you have a dream and passion to translate it into reality. It has been one such journey for Dr. Surendar Poonia.

Enraptured by the uniformed men whom he would encounter as a child in his village, Major Surendra Poonia had made up his mind that he would be a part of the Indian Army. Against all odds he fought to earn a slot in the Presidents Bodyguard and but also a place in the hearts of all sports lovers in the country.

For the third time in a row, Major Poonia won seven medals in the World Medical and Health Games recently held in Antalya,Turkey. He won two gold medals in powerlifting and 800m and silver medals in 400m, 1500m, 5000m.

Speaking to Sunday Guardian, Major Poonia said, "It was the encouragement and support of the seniors and the battalion that helped me prepare for this event." Major Poonia maintains that his experience as a part of the Special Forces in Kashmir has contributed greatly to his success."It has been during my seven-year stint as part of the Special Forces, that made me what I am today."
